Roles

Roles are sets of permissions you can grant to multiple users. If you're going to invite and manage large number of users across multiple datasets, roles can save you time. For example, you might create:

  • A role for each dataset that gives access to just that data set
  • A role that gives access to multiple dashboards
  • A role that only has access to dashboards
  • A role that only has access to an area of the product like Answers

You'll see roles when you invite a new user or edit an existing user's permissions:

Editing Roles

The ability to edit roles is a feature of enterprise accounts only.

Editing a role will change the permissions of all users who have been granted that role. Deleting a role will remove that set of permissions from all users who have been granted that role.

To edit Roles, click "manage roles" in your user menu, or using the button on the "manage users" page.

You will see a list of all roles. The "show custom permissions" toggle will reveal any custom permissions that have been granted to users. As mentioned in How to invite users to Thematic, custom permissions are simply a convenience: Custom permissions will only affect one user. They can be shown here if you need to audit permissions.

Clicking on a role allows you to edit it.
